Editorial methodology

How we choose and use sources

Several SimLuxury pages show a panel titled “What selected specialist sources say”. This page explains exactly how those panels are built, sourced, and kept honest.

Researched and edited by Marcus Bransbury, Founder & Editor at SimLuxury.

We summarise consensus, we do not republish

Each panel is our own summary of what respected, named publications and collector communities tend to say about a watch, brand, or buying decision — with a link to the original. We deliberately avoid reproducing long passages and use short quotes rarely, only when they are verified and clearly attributed.

Only verified, real sources

Every source signal points to a real, live article we have read. Nothing is invented. Where a publication blocks automated access, we summarise and link rather than quote. We do not fabricate quotes, authors, or dates.

A vetted, tiered source list

We work from a curated list of specialist watch and jewellery publications, fashion and luxury press, standards bodies, and collector communities — quality over quantity. Retailer-owned editorial is allowed but is visibly labelled, and never stands in as the headline view.

Independent-source weighting

When we show "common themes", each theme is counted by the number of independent outlets that raise it — not the number of articles — so two pieces from the same publication do not overstate agreement.

Editorial review and an approval gate

The headline consensus and buyer takeaway are an editorial judgement, not an automated average. Nothing is published until it has been reviewed and approved; draft material never appears on the live site.

We keep it current

Each panel carries a review date and a next-review date. Opinions and prices move, so entries are re-checked on a schedule and are automatically withheld from the site once they fall past their review date until refreshed.

The sources we draw from

Our current vetted list. We add and remove sources over time; this is the set the panels can cite today.
